The Alliance franšaise of Madras is especially a confluence of French and Indian culture. It also has the mission of making known French and Francophone culture and favor cultural diversity.
Its main mission is teaching the French language and culture, relations with schools, higher secondary schools, universities and colleges in which French is taught. The Alliance Française invites cultural dialogue by creating a French ambience in the heart of the city. It brings together friends of France, whether or not they speak French, with the aim of establishing bonds of friendship between France and India. Cultural activities are organized through the year: shows, film projections, discussions, lectures, exhibitions, concerts, etc.
It is therefore both a school for learning French, using the latest teaching methods and multimedia tools, and a cultural center that takes part in the artistic life of the city of Chennai and Tamil Nadu.
Since 1954, when the first diploma was awarded by the Alliance Française of Madras, the courses offered allow Indian students to obtain internationally recognized certifications such as DELF, DALF, TCF, TEF and other examinations conducted by the CCIP (Paris Chamber of Commerce and Industry). Today, around 3000 students learn French at various levels.
